Ford picks Johnson Controls-Saft to develop plug-in hybrid batteries

FoMoCo has announced that it has finalized a deal to produce an advanced lithium-ion system to power Ford’s first commercial plug-in hybrid (PHEV) due out in 2012. Ford also said that it will team up with 7 utility partners to test and speed up the commercialization of its plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.
Johnson Controls-Saft will help Ford develop advanced lithium-ion battery systems for its plug-in hybrids. The battery packs will be used by the 7 partners to test a fleet of Ford Escape PHEVs.
Ford said that the partnerships will help it “accelerate its electrification strategy” which includes a full battery electric vehicle (BEV) van for commercial use in 2010 and a small BEV sedan developed jointly with Magna International by 2011.
Ford’s 7 partners that will test the Escape PHEVs include:
- New York Power Authority
- Consolidated Edison of New York
- American Electric Power of Columbus, Ohio
- Alabama Power of Birmingham, Ala.; and its parent, Atlanta-based Southern Company
- Progress Energy of Raleigh, N.C.
- DTE Energy of Detroit

Honda Hints Insight Price May Be Higher Than Expected - U.S. News Rankings & Reviews
06.02.09
Honda's new Insight hybrid may be more expensive than initial reports have suggested. Though multiple sources have placed the insight's price below $19,000 , the vehicle has already gone on sale at a price thousands of dollars above that figure -- in its home market. Jalopnik reports that the 2010 Honda Insight is now on sale "at a cost of ¥1,890,000 (approximately $21,000)... in Japan." Edmunds Inside Line says the Japanese market price offers a hint of what the U.S. price may be. "Honda has not yet announced U.S. pricing, but has said that the hybrid will be priced below the Honda Civic Hybrid...The base 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid starts at $24,320, including a $670 destination charge." If prices around $21,000, the Insight would still be the most affordable hybrid car available in the U.S. Edmunds notes, "The base or 'standard' grade 2009 Toyota Prius starts at $22,720, including a $720 destination charge. The uplevel Touring grade Prius starts at $24,990, including destination."

Ford escape????
Mar 20, 2008 by Someone u dont know | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
i have a 2001 Ford Escape V6 3.0L and it has no Radiator cap????? i looked and then i put antifreeze in the bottle. Why does it have no cap????
Most cars that don't have a radiator cap have a pressurized cap on the overflow tank instead. Many foreign cars have done this for years. One advantage is that you have less evaporation of the coolant.
Just make sure the overflow tank is filled up to the "cold" line when the engine is cold, and don't open it when the engine is hot. If you suspect a problem, they can be pressure-checked just like a radiator cap, with the proper adapter.

2002 Ford Escape hesitates to start every great once in a while, any guesses what it might be?
Oct 04, 2007 by thatgirl | Posted in Maintenance & Repairs
Every great once in a while -- like once every couple of months or so, my '02 Ford Escape doesn't want to turn over. When it happens I have to hold the key on and let it crank for 30 seconds or so and then it will turn over. One of my guesses is, it might be doing this after sitting in direct sun for several hours, but I'm not sure.
Is there anything that Escape's are notorious for, that might be causing this? Any speculations what it might be?
I know I should take it to a garage -- but since it happens so sporadically I forget about it -- and more than likely the garage won't be able to duplicate the problem.
Try this... Turn the key to the "ON" position....wait 30 seconds...then fire it up....
Fuel injection is a high fuel pressure system.
Somehow after the vehicle sits a while the fuel system will lose pressure causing the motor to crank longer to build up the necessary pressure to deliver adequate fuel to the motor.
Turning on the key also turns on the electric fuel pump in your gas tank creating the necessary pressure. It should fire up much quicker! Try it...... Also getting the fuel filter changed wouldn't hurt anything either! Good Luck!

Why my 2001 Ford escape egr failure and valve blew up on the side?
Nov 27, 2007 by martesc_1999 | Posted in Ford
I have a 2001 Ford Escape. For some reason while driving at high speed, the Side of my EGR Valve is blown out. Before that I had problems with misfire, I replaced two spark plug solenoids and the six plenum gaskets. After that the car was running weaken (without power). I replace the EGR valve, but the problems continue. I found that the tube going from the exhaust manifold to the EGR was extremely hot. What is happening?
you are running rich,,,does your cat, glow in the dark,,
EGR has no relation on misfire unless the sensor is shorted or grounded
misfire will cause you cat to heat up abnormally
and running rich too,
your check engine light shoul be on by now,,have it scan
