Before the snow melts this early spring, Chicago police should begin receiving new Chevrolet Tahoe sport-utility vehicles (right), part of Supt. Jody Weis' plan to replace the entire fleet of Crown Victorias, the police car of choice for decades.
The SUVs have been a pet project of Weis' since he took over almost a year ago. In November, the city signed a $59 million contract with suburban Advantage Chevrolet to provide as many as 2,000 Tahoes over the next three years, but given the city's budget woes, it's unclear how many will actually hit the street.
Each SUV costs $24,977, though options such as spotlights, police flashing lights and custom paint jobs could add thousands of dollars. The department also has the option to buy up to 60 hybrid SUVs with better mileage. Still, a study done by Michigan State Police show SUVs get about the same mileage as the old Crown Vics—just

Will the new Chevrolet Tahoe hybrid for 2008 be able to use ethanol?

I know GM is coming out with a Tahoe hybrid for the 2008 model year, but I was curious if it was able to use ethanol to power the gas motor like many of the non-hybrid GMs do now.
Any ideas?
I'm not aware that any production car today uses straight ethanol. FlexFuel cars use E85, which is a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. I'll assume that you're asking if the 2008 Tahoe hybrid can use E85.
I did some research and the best I can come up with is "no," the 2008 Tahoe will not have a FlexFuel engine -- it will burn only standard gasoline. Keep in mind that standard gasoline is usually mixed with 10 percent ethanol these days, so the Tahoe will use some ethanol -- just not E85.
Reading up on the Tahoe, some of the fuel economy improvements come from weight reduction and aerodynamic work, things GM should have done long ago to improve economy in its regular gasoline fleet.

Can someone who's driven a Chevy Tahoe Hybrid tell me what their experience is with respect to the real gas mileage of the vehicule?
If you drive 55mph with the A/C off, no traffic and one helluva light foot you might get 20mpg. That is how the EPA rates it. GM only really developed it to get environment freaks off there case. One of my friends purchased it and he rarely gets over 20mpg, but it is still better than 16mpg in his old Tahoe...

By 2008, Chevrolet will reveal a new Tahoe Hybrid. WIll it be more economical? What is your estimate on the gas mileage? Just a wild guess. Can it reach like morea than 12 Kilometers Per Liter if moving at real slow speeds? It has an electric powered engine when there is no need for that much power anyway... What do you think?
Will it be more economical? Yes.
Will it be enough to care? I doubt it.
I'd love for GM to prove me wrong, but take a look at a hybrid vehicle that they already make: The Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. The non-hybrid version gets 15 miles per gallon in city driving, and the hybrid gets...

As usual, GM was late to see the direction that the marketplace was heading. As usual, when they realized that they were late, they started telling everyone that hybrids were a short-term fad, and that hydrogen fuel cells were "the future." As usual, when spreading that misinformation didn't work, they half-heartedly started development of hybrids themselves.
A pickup that gets 16mpg instead of 15mpg?
Sorry, but I won't buy the first hybrid Tahoe.
