OUR TAKE: OK, so maybe the Ford Expedition is twice the vehicle most people need. But if you're one who has to occasionally haul a horse trailer or you have half a dozen kids and live in Alberta, you'll be thankful that politically incorrect vehicles such as this still remain buyable.

The Ford Expedition's chassis is rock solid and the powertrain is stout. The exhaust note is nice and throaty, and the shifting is smooth. And switching in and out of 4WD couldn't be easier, achieved literally by the turning a knob.

It's a quiet ride, too, and not just around town but out on the freeway at speed. It's comfortable inside and of course, there is a ton of room. The design is clean, with decent materials used throughout. The independent rear suspension allows for a ginormous third row (at least compared with the competition), and the power seats in the way-back work great. That independent rear also makes for a smooth, stable ride, especially considering the heft. We're not sure we'd opt for the power running boards--especially not at nearly a grand.
