First Drive: 2009 Chevy Colorado and 2009 GMC Canyon
05.02.09
Chevy's Colorado and GMC 's Canyon are the Rodney Dangerfields of the mid-size pickup category. During their first five years of existence, they earned all the respect they deserved: nada. Blame it on birthright. The early twenty-first century liaison between General Motors and Isuzu assigned the Japanese partner to the lead engineering role. Unfortunately, Isuzu's creativity wasn't up to GM's minimum standards, so the design had to be rejiggered, delaying introduction until the 2004 model year and prolonging the lives of the clunky S-10 and Sonoma pickups. To further cripple any chance of success, GM torpedoed the new powertrain roster. While the 2.8-liter DOHC four-cylinder base engine was reasonably competitive, the 3.5-liter in-line five faced enemies armed with six- and eight-cylinder engines. Power and torque were not the issue. The five, subsequently upped to 3.7 liters, is still available and currently provides a healthy 242 hp and 242 lb-ft of torque. But when bar talk turns to engines, the joke's on any pickup owner who admits he's packing a five-shooter.

How much to replace a lost key for a gmc canyon?
Aug 27, 2008 by lianab | Posted in GMC
My husband lost the only key for our truck. It is a GMC Canyon, 2005 I think. How much will this cost?
if your key was the kind that has a chip in it proably $150.00 or more.
My wife lost one of our keys to our for a 2005 Doge Caravan and to replace it was $150.00 so we are down to one key.
I tried haveing a regular key made for it at Wallmart but that key will unlock the door and everything but when i try to start the engine it just starts then shuts off right away.

Is the GMC Canyon any better than the Chevy Colorado?
Apr 20, 2008 by Luke S | Posted in Chevrolet
So I want to bye a midsize truck and I've narrowed my search down to the Canyon/Colorado. But I can't decide which to go with! Is there any difference between the two besides the logo? Is one actually better than the other? Or is it (as I suspect) just a matter of brand preference?
Short Take
The Colorado's five-cylinder engine is unrefined and has worse fuel-economy than competing V6s. Handling is sound but unexceptional. The ride is unsettled, and the body constantly quivers. Overall, it trails the competition. Both engines grew in displacement for 2007. Reliability of the 2WD model has been average, but the 4WD model is below average.
