In a hopeful sign for the St. Paul Ford plant among plummeting vehicle sales, Ford Motor Co. is expected to announce today that it will add two safety features to the 2010 Ford Ranger -- side air bags and an electronic stability control system.

That's a likely signal that the plant, slated to close in 2011, won't be shut early.

But with recent abysmal sales, St. Paul workers, just off a six-week furlough, will be forced to sit out next week and a week in March as the manufacturer pares inventory.

Ford spokesman Wes Sherwood said the newly equipped 2010 Rangers will begin to roll off the assembly line this summer.

Ford had intended to close the St. Paul plant this year, but last July, Ford said it would be open through 2011.

The Ranger will be one of two small pickups to offer both safety features as standard equipment, Sherwood said. The other truck is the Toyota Tacoma.

"Electronic stability control is especially important in pickup trucks because they have a higher propensity to be involved in rollover crashes," said Russ Rader, a spokesman for the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Ford's stability control is designed to prevent both skidding and rollovers.

If I lift a 2000 Ford Ranger 3inch what size tire would work best. with out triming to much of the fenders and not killing my gas miliage

Ford Ranger: How do I reset the computer for the check engine light?

I recently replaced my EGR valve in my '95 Ford Ranger and yet the check engine light still comes on. I unhooked the battery cables for 15 minutes which caused the light to go off, but it came back on after about an hour of driving. What else is there to do?

Well, since you've already installed the EGR valve you've puchased from Auto Zone, the option of returning the part for a refund is no longer viable. But, I would bet the farm your EGR valve WASN'T the problem. More likely it was the DPFE sensor that needed replaced, NOT the EGR valve. This sensor is either an aluminum bodied rectangular shaped sensor with two rubber hoses and a three wire electrical connector connected to it, or a black pastic sensor if it has already been replaced before. This is a VERY commonly failing part on ALL Ford products. You would need to purchase it from the Ford dealer parts department. Just ask for part number F77Z-9J460-AB at the counter to get the part you need. Hope this helps.

After driving my 97 Ford Ranger for several miles and shutting down the engine, I have to wait five/ten minutes before it will restart. This only happens once ever so often (one out of ten times) . What's causing this. It acts like the old days of vapor lock.

I'd suspect it's the charcoal canister and it's plugged up. That allows the fuel tank to vent and you might have some negative pressure in the tank, not allowing the fuel pump to pump fuel into the engine. Next time that happens, unhook the hoses that goes to the canister (under the hood) and see if that helps. Get a replacement and you're GTG.
