Feature: Bring It On! 2009 Acura RDX and 2009 Kia Sportage, Part 3 - CanadianDriver

By Paul Williams

At the time of this writing, it is minus 27 degrees Celsius on a clear January day in Ottawa (minus 15 on the old Fahrenheit scale). The Acura RDX has been a real trooper so far this winter, but right now it’s in the driveway, exposed to the elements, and frozen through-and-through.

Surprisingly (or not, I suppose), the driver’s door won’t open. Hmmm. The rear door is okay, though, and being a limber fellow, I gain entry through it, and clamber over the centre console into the front seat, which greets me like a lump of ice; hard and just as cold. The key turns as if it’s embedded in molasses, and the battery slowly cranks the engine. It fires willingly on the second crank, and settles into a fast idle.

On the radio, many people are reporting stuck doors, it turns out, and that their power windows are frozen (usually learning this at the Tim Horton’s drive-through), but the RDX windows are fine, and after a short drive, so is the door.

Acura RDX????

I am looking at an Acura RDX, and I wanted to know if anyone has one or has driven one.....what do you think?

I am debating between this and the Ford Edge....

Thanks!

I recently bought an rdx with tech package and have been loving it. I was also looking into the ford edge and would recommend dealing with acura over ford. The experience I had at the dealerships alone convinced me, but more than that, this crossover suv drives like a sports car. The technology in the cabin is just as fun to play with. Get the rdx! You will not regret it, and if money is not the issue, definitely get the tech package.

What your experience with gas mileage on the Acura RDX?

I am considering buying the Acura RDX for my wife. I have heard some nightmares about bad gas mileage for this car and would like to hear from any owners out there for true facts. I am also considering the Honda CRV which is a great car with good mileage however, my wife loves the luxury features of the Acura

Frankly the RDX is a POS. Honda comes up with a new turbo engine and let's face it....it sux donkey balls. Those K series engines are great by themselves but as soon as you throw in a turbo in there you are going to have to make more changes which Honda did not account for or rather spend on R&D. Give it a few more years. You might want to look into a Lexus.

And it's not all that fun. If you want a fun car get a manual transmission. Those levers under the steering are fake-mission.

Does anyone know when the body style of the Acura RDX will change?

I would like to buy a luxury small suv and of course the RDX would be my first choice. Just don't want to buy the current model now if a new one is coming out soon.

Well it's getting a facelift (taking on the company's grille) for the 2010 model year, as seen here http://rdx.acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?p=10357130#post10357130 Since the RDX came out in 2006, one generation usually lasts 5-7 years. So, the full redesign will be between the 2011- 2012 model year... nothing is set in stone yet.
